WORKSHOP
"THEME THE BODY"
The workshop will be split between a technique and an exploration
class. Both parts will be linked; the material worked with in the
exploration will be sourced from the technique.
TECHNIQUE
This class is release-based. It begins with a warm-up, focusing
on isolation of the joints and the initiation of movement by different
body-parts. This section refers to some basic principles of Pilates
mat-work and Power-Yoga. This develops into rolling exercises which
accelerates into a bigger circular movement phrases that travel
the space and uses the floor. The objective of the exercises is
to prepare the dancers to move with a natural, spontaneous sense
of their own body. They are encouraged to develop a spatial awareness
whilst keeping a focus on the details that form the movement.
EXPLORATION
The physical principles and the movement material introduced in
the technique class will be the starting point for this part of
the session. The dancers will be asked to select elements they wish
to work with and following given tasks, this material will be developed
further. The idea is to research the potential of a movement theme
and to follow the different contexts of how it can be used. The
nature of the tasks will be improvisation, movement-manipulation
and theatrical impute. In the end of the workshop the participants
will develop a short composition based on one of these tasks, which
will be presented in the last session.
